The Shoes We Wear...

Many of us are fortunate that we have choices in life and I admit to being fascinated and ever curious about the shoes people choose.

I realize that in many respects choice of footwear may be a rather trivial decision and yet I am still drawn to glance down at everyone's shoes.

The funny thing is that  if I actually ask someone about their shoes I rarely receive a trivial shrug or roll of eyes to indicate that "these shoes are merely foot coverings--don't bother me with such nonesense."

Instead, I get everything from "I got them on sale" to intense responses like "There is much you can tell about a man by the state of and choice in footwear" followed by an unblinking stare and arched eyebrows.

I find the whole shoe-bang to be a thrill so don't hold back if I happen to ask you about your shoes--I really want to know and perhaps you will even be shoe-prised by your answer.

All your shoes and mine too,

Beach Feet for Better Feet

Tips on Tuesday

Often enough things that improve our health are tedious or uninspiring but today I am sharing a foot tip that puts a smile on most faces.

Get your feet to the beach!

That's right !!!

One of the best things you can do for the good of your feet inside and out is to take a walk in the sand.

Walking barefoot in the sand excises muscles in the feet that are usually neglected and gets all those tendons moving. Also, the sand will smooth the skin of your feet and they will be notably softer from regular strolls in the sand.

For developing “kid” feet the sand is ideal as it strengthens their arches and encourages toe gripping which gives your kids a great foundation for healthy feet and and good balance.

You don't live near the beach? Get creative! Build a sand box or book a much needed vacation to a sandy destination.

Busted In My Buster Browns...

FlashBack Friday

Today's flash back takes us all the way back to my early grade school days.

Just before school started, mom took me to have my feet measured and fit into a STURDY pair of Buster Brown shoes.  I clearly remember their T-strap buckle, perforated dot design on the toe-box, the very shade of navy blue and the fact that I did NOT like them!  Mom thought they were great and we went home with them. Yes, I wore them on the first day of school and for many days, weeks and months thereafter despite my protests/tantrums.

I went so far as to make giant efforts to wear them out prematurely. I rode my bike up the street and then coasted back dragging the toes of those very STURDY shoes across the asphalt.  This got me scuffs and a lesson in shoe polishing but it didn't get me out of those shoes.  Mom thought they held up so well that when I outgrew them...(I had been willing my feet to grow so that I might get a new different pair of shoes) she bought a size bigger in the exact same style!!! She even had my hair cut in the same page-boy style as the Buster Brown character. Oy!!!

Perhaps I am scarred for life but I do appreciate that my mom was doing her best to take care of my feet, thereby teaching me the value of a quality shoe and of course how to polish shoes which I no longer see as a punishment.
